Born in Denver Colorado, Michael Lundgren spent his formative years in the rolling hills of Upstate New York, prowling the fields and woods behind his home. It was here that the out of doors first set down her roots. Michael began photographing at the age of 12 with an old 35mm camera, given to him by his father with the enticement,“There are cameras that can turn the night into the day.” This early invitation foreshadowed his fascination with photography and its duality: transformation and mimesis. Michael received his BFA in photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1997 and his MFA in photography from Arizona State University in 2003. Working closely with well-known landscape photographer, Mark Klett as his black and white printer, Michael began photographing in the Sonoran desert in Arizona and Mexico. Since June 2004 he has been teaching at Arizona State University as an associate faculty. Michael has exhibited nationally and been published in Audubon, Landscape Architecture and Spot, magazines, as well as local Phoenix periodicals. Michael’s latest work is an exploration into a spiritual experience of place and the ideas of time and the Romantic sublime. Curriculum Vitae |
